Spotlight on: CCTS KL2 Awardee Dr. Courtney Peterson, Pennington Biomedical Research Center

Courtney Peterson, PhD, MSC, is assistant professor in the Pennington Biomedical Research Center's Skeletal Muscle Physiology Laboratory. She is one of four CCTS Mentored Career Development Program (KL2) awardees for 2016. Peterson said she learned about the award opportunity from her center's director, Dr. William Cefalu. Prior to applying for the K award, Peterson had participated in a CCTS Panel for an NIH-funded K award application.

LSU Receives $18.5 Million NIH Grant to Build Biomedical Research Pipeline

BATON ROUGE - LSU has received an $18.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, or NIH, to support an Institutional Development Award, or IDeA, Network of Biomedical Research Excellence, or INBRE. The IDeA program builds research capacities in states that historically have had low levels of NIH funding by supporting basic, clinical and translational research; faculty development; and infrastructure improvements. IDeA is administered by NIH’s National Institute of General Medical Sciences and is a component of its Center for Research Capacity Building.

BATON ROUGE, LA - Four biomedical scientists from New Orleans and Baton Rouge were recently honored by the Louisiana Clinical and Translational Science (LA CaTS) Center, a statewide initiative funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). These "scholar" awards recognize early career clinical and translational research scientists for their work, and provide them with valuable support and mentoring to further develop their careers.

The Biostatistics Core of the Louisiana Clinical and Translation Science (LA CaTS) will be hosting a meeting of the Southeastern Alliance for Bioinformatics Translational Sciences (SEABITS) Wednesday, March 18. The consortium of scientists from Auburn University, Hudson Alpha Institute for Biotechnology (Huntsville, Alabama), Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Tulane University, University of Alabama, University of Alabama Center for Clinical and Translational Science, Xavier University of Louisiana, University of South Alabama, and University of Mississippi Medical Center will finalize their immediate goals for collaborating to facilitate the advancement of bioinformatics research at their institutions by sharing knowledge and resources in mutually beneficial programs.
