Media Highlights from LA CaTS Pilot (Anbalagan) on Effect of Dim Light on Cancer Metastasis

LA CaTS Center pilot grant awardee, Dr. Muralidharan Anbalagan from Tulane University, was recently highlighted in the media for his project on "Dim Light at Night Promotes Breast Cancer Bone Metastasis". Congratulations to Dr. Anbalagan on the recognition for his work supported by the LA CaTS Center Pilot Grants Program.

The LA CaTS Center Research Community is invited to the LA CaTS Showcase & Networking Social on April 16, 2019 from 4:00-5:30pm at Tulane University, part of the 2019 Annual External Advisory Committee Meeting. The LA CaTS Showcase will feature LA CaTS Center pilot and scholar projects. The event is also a networking opportunity for researchers to meet and interact with other investigators, LA CaTS Center leadership, cores and resources, as well as our external advisors in attendance.

The Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities, Research and Education at Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy will host its 12th Health Disparities Conference April 8-10, 2019 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Conference participants will include public and community health leaders, health policy makers, researchers, health educators, clinicians (pharmacists, physicians, nurses, physician assistants, and allied health professionals) and students whose work incorporates the use of multidisciplinary partnerships that build collaborations to eliminate health disparities and achieve health equity.

LA CaTS Scholar Hoerger's Pallative Care Research Featured

Michael Hoerger, Ph.D, M.S.C.R a clinical health psychologist and decision scientist at Tulane University, conducts research aimed at supporting quality of life in adults with cancer. He is particularly interested in increasing utilization of palliative care, a multidisciplinary service for patients with advanced cancer or serious symptoms that is designed with the goal of supporting quality of life.
Pennington NORC Pilot & Feasibility Program

The Pennington NORC is pleased to announce a Pilot and Feasibility Grant Program (the full text of the application instructions can be found here). The primary goal of the program is to enable investigators the ability to generate a sufficient body of preliminary information for a successful application for major research funding from NIH or other national granting agencies or to develop new technologies for use at Pennington.

LA CaTS Scholar, Courtney Peterson's Research Highlighted by NIH

Congratulations to Courtney Peterson, PhD, past LA CaTS Roadmap Scholar (2013-2015) and pilot grant awardee on her research being highlighted by the National Institutes for Health (NIH). Her study featured was focused on intermittent fasting and the correlation with improvement in health. In 2016, Dr. Peterson received one of four CCTS Mentored Career Development Program (KL2) awards from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Center for Clinical & Translational Science (CCTS). Dr. Peterson was previously an assistant professor at Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, and is now an assistant professor at UAB. The LA CaTS Center is proud to have provided her with a stepping stone in the advancement in her clinical and translational research career.

The LA CaTS Clinical Research Resources at Tulane is hosting the Level 2 Research Coordinator Training to be held at Tulane University (Tidewater Building, 1440 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70112 on the 12th floor, room 1208) on April 6, 2018 at 8 a.m. All LA CaTS institutions are invited to attend. There will be no cost to attend the training and all attendees will receive a certificate of completion. Lunch and light refreshments will be provided.

The 6th Annual Louisiana Conference on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics will be held on April 6 - 7, 2018 at the LSU Digital Media Center. The conference is co-sponsored by the Louisiana Biomedical Research Network (LBRN), the LSU-Tulane Center for Experimental Infectious Disease Research (CEIDR), LSU Center for Computation and Technology (CCT) and the LSU Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED).
