LA CaTS Center Training Programs
The LA CaTS Center Clinical Research Resources (CRR) Core offers various training programs to research professionals from the clinical coordinator level to experienced senior investigators. Click on the trainings below for a short description of each program offered currently to faculty and staff at LA CaTS Center member institutions.
- Description: The goal is to create comprehensive high-integrity research coordinator training that promotes career paths in research. This workshop covers the basic concepts required to successfully coordinate a research study and provide an overview of the research resources and regulatory requirements for conducting clinical research. Application of concepts to drug/device trials, as well as non-drug/device trials, is discussed. Attendees will have an opportunity to network with experienced coordinators and program staff from across LA CaTS institutions. Participants will receive a LA CaTS certificate for completing the program.
- Occurs: Annually in the fall
- Cost: FREE to all LA CaTS Member Institutions
- Description: The goal is to provide more advanced training to research coordinators. This interactive training session consists of case study presentations and discussions with PI mentors. Small groups discuss the case studies, while PI mentors and experts from IRB, clinical research, compliance, and legal are available to offer guidance to the groups. To be eligible, participants must have completed the LA CaTS Level 1 Research Coordinator Training and must also a) have a Bachelor's degree and 2 years of clinical research experience, or b) have at least 5 years of clinical research experience. Participants will receive a LA CaTS certificate for completing the program.

- Description: This intensive, full-day series of interactive presentations provides a deep dive into ICH and FDA regulations to prepare attendees for becoming certified in clinical research roles. Participants will engage with certified clinical research professionals and discuss critical regulatory guidelines along with strategies for learning and applying these concepts.

- Description: Provides an overview of research and regulatory topics for basic scientists interested in clinical translation of their research and young clinical investigators wishing enhance their capabilities. A broad range of clinical research topics are covered including human subject research preparation, regulatory responsibilities in research (includes FDA 1572), research navigation resources, basic principal investigator responsibilities, protection of human subjects, good clinical practices, and funding opportunities for clinical research.

- Cost: FREE to all LA CaTS Member Institutions
- Description: The LA CaTS Senior Investigator Update provides senior investigators with the latest developments in clinical research. Examples of topic covered: Privacy and Information Security Issues in Clinical Research, Clinicaltrials.gov, and Conflicts of Interest in Research. Topics may vary for each training.
