Coronavirus (COVID-19) Community Activities

The LA CaTS Center is pleased to serve as an information hub of COVID-19 community activities and updates announced by various community organizations in conjunction with the LA CaTS Community Engagement and Outreach Core (CEO Core) Core and the Community Advisory Boards (CABs). If you are an investigator at one of our member institutions, you are eligible to receive assistance from LA CaTS Center CABs and the CEO Core resources on your next grant proposal. Dos conversaciones entre Mariana Montero, la fundadora de Golden Change, Inc., y el Dr. Roy Salgado, Profesor en la Universidad de Holy Cross, sobre las instrucciones a seguir durante la reapertura de la ciudad y cómo mejorar nuestro bienestar mental, emocional, espiritual, y físico durante estos tiempos de dificultad y preocupación.

English Translation: Two discussions between Mariana Montero, founder of Golden Change, Inc., and Dr. Roy Salgado, Associate Professor of Counseling and Behavioral Sciences at University of Holy Cross, on instructions to follow during the city's reopening and how to nurture your mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being during these difficult and worrisome times.

2. COVID-19: THE COMMUNITY'S FORUM ON HEALTH & WELLNESS

The forum was a community-led, interactive discussion that covered a range of topics from debunking COVID-19 myths, to antibody testing, mental health and trauma, and ways to strengthen resilience in Black youth. Attendees offered their expertise and shared local and national resources with the group. TESTING SITES

These two new testing sites provided by UnitedHealth Group are fully operational and are located in the 70117 and 70118 zip codes of Orleans Parish.

By providing and investing in testing and other services (food, information for other social services) at these locations, UnitedHealth Group hopes to make an impact in vulnerable minority communities that have been hit hard by COVID-19 by slowing or stopping the transmission.

Locations/Hours:

  • City of Love Church, 8601 Palmetto Street, NOLA 70118, will be available on Tuesday and Wednesday each week.
    Tuesday hours: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday hours: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • St. Mary of the Angels Church, 2225 Congress Street, NOLA 70117, will be available on Thursday, Friday and Saturday each week.
    Thursday hours: 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday hours: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The free COVID-19 testing takes place Tuesdays – Saturdays at both locations over the next few weeks at the times/locations listed below and at the website: www.communitystopcovid.com
