Tulane University has been awarded a $1.62 million grant from the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) to establish a new predoctoral training program in genomic precision medicine. Led by Dr. David Crosslin, the program will prepare the next generation of biomedical researchers to apply genomics, biomedical data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to advance precision medicine and improve patient care.

The Tulane University/Ochsner Health Genomic Precision Medicine Program, developed in partnership with Ochsner Health, is centered on the HEROIC (Health Education through Robust Omics and Individualized Care) mission. Notably, it is the first NHGRI-funded training program established in an Institutional Development Award (IDeA) state.

Housed within the Tulane University School of Medicine's Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program, the initiative will provide doctoral students with advanced training in biomedical informatics, data science, AI, and machine learning, supported by faculty from Tulane's Division of Biomedical Informatics and Genomics and the broader genomic research community.

Dr. Crosslin serves as Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics and Genomics, Director of Graduate Programs in Biomedical Informatics, Director of the Sex-Based Precision Medicine Research Core at Tulane University, and is a member of the LA CaTS Biomedical Informatics Core.

The LA CaTS Center congratulates Dr. Crosslin and his team on this significant achievement and their continued contributions to advancing genomic precision medicine research and training.
