Dr. Owen CarmichaelLA CaTS Center investigator, Dr. Owen Carmichael received the James W. and Neil Ann Parks Professorship for Dementia Research, Prevention and Treatment from Pennington Biomedical Research Center. Dr. Carmichael is internationally recognized for his work using advanced biomedical imaging technologies to better understand brain aging, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. 

Dr. Carmichael is also the recipient of the 2025 Publication of the Year award. The Publication of the Year Awards highlight the breadth and excellence of research conducted across the Center and celebrate publications that have significantly influenced their respective fields during the past year.

Dr. Carmichael is also a past LA CaTS Community Scholar Awardee. His project titled "Mixed Methods Analysis of Firefighter Mental Health and Interventional Strategies" with Nathan Boudreaux at the St. George Fire Protection District aim to evaluate the frequency of PTSS and related mental health symptoms experienced by professional Louisiana firefighters and to use this knowledge to establish the most population-meaningful interventional strategies to address these issues.
