The LA CaTS Center is pleased to announce our continued partnership with The Southern Society for Clinical Investigation (SSCI) in the Southern Regional Meeting (SRM 2025) in New Orleans. The Call for Abstracts is OPEN. We encourage all LA CaTS pilots and scholars to submit an abstract under the “IDeA Clinical and Translational Research” category.
Please see the important deadlines for abstracts and nominations for awards below. Abstract submissions open August 9th. This is a wonderful opportunity for investigators and trainees to have a published abstract in the American Journal of Medical Sciences.

Also note that the SSCI offers a number of special awards and travel awards for eligible students, trainees and junior faculty. Please take note of these opportunities in the Call for Abstracts and be sure to submit the supporting documentation upon abstract submission.

SSCI Fellow Nominations Deadline – Deadline August 15
The SSCI Membership Committee and Council have revised the Fellow Nomination forms to make them more streamlined and the process easier. Please review your faculty roster for new Fellows as well as contact colleagues at other institutions for possible nominations. SSCI Research Scholar Award – Deadline September 1
The SSCI Research Scholar Award is intended to support the career development of promising young physician-investigators from our regional medical centers who are active participants in the SSCI. The $25,000 one-year award is intended to specifically supplement federal and non-federal career development awards that have either already been funded or that have received highly favorable scores and/or reviews. This award is restricted to post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty who are being mentored by an SSCI Fellow. This funding would begin on March . SSCI Early Career Awards – Deadline October 15
The SSCI would like to recognize outstanding early career faculty who are members of our organization and who have demonstrated success in research, education or clinical service and are committed a career in academic medicine. Moreover, these individuals should have demonstrated a commitment to participation in the SSCI or Southern Regional Meeting (SRM). Eligible faculty members must be six years or less from completing their training and be nominated by a SSCI Fellow in good standing. A monetary award and one year of membership to SSCI will be given to the awardees. One award in each of the Research (basic science or clinical investigation) and Clinician Educator/Service categories will be awarded. SSCI Early Career Council Nominations – Deadline October 15
The SSCI Early Career Council is seeking to add three additional members to the Council. We are soliciting interest from members who are six years or less from completing their training to serve on the Council. Early Career Council members will serve 3-year terms, with the possibility of serving a 4th year as Chair of the Council. The Council’s goal is to engage and grow the early career membership of the SSCI. We are looking for members who have ideas about how to increase early faculty membership in the SSCI. Those who are interested in serving on the Council should submit an application consisting of a CV, a personal letter of intent, and a letter of recommendation from a current SSCI Fellow. These applications will be reviewed and voted upon by the Early Career Council and Membership Committee with final approval by the SSCI Officers and Council. SSCI Mentor of the Year Awards – Deadline October 3
Awards will be presented in the Junior Faculty, Postgraduate, and Student categories. These awards recognize outstanding mentors who are members of our organization and who have demonstrated a longstanding commitment to mentoring students, trainees, and/or junior faculty. Moreover, through their positive impact on the mentee's careers, they have advanced medical education and research for the benefit of the community at large.
