  • The Influences of Health Literacy on Clinical Research Trials
    Dr. Hadden is executive director and principal investigator for CHL, where she conducts health literacy research and participates in policy initiatives to improve health literacy in Arkansas. She has served as vice chair of the Partnership for Health Literacy in Arkansas and chair of the Health Literacy Research Think Tank, as well as an honorary fellow of the Arkansas Society of Public Health Educators. During this session, Dr. Hadden (1) defines patient health literacy; (2) discusses why health literacy is important to public health and pediatric clinical trials; (3) and provide best practices for overcoming health literacy barriers.   • Overview of Data and Safety Monitoring Boards (DSMBs)
    A Pediatric Infectious Diseases subspecialist in the Section of Infectious Diseases and International Health at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, Dr. Palumbo is active in the clinical research of Pediatric HIV and TB infection, participating in the IMPAACT Network funded by the Division of AIDS/NIAID. Dr. Palumbo serves on the Leadership Committee of the IDeA States Pediatric Network as well as the Pre-, Peri-, Postnatal Working Group and on the Concept Protocol Development and Review ad hoc committee.  In this discussion Overview of Data and Safety Monitoring Boards, the learner will become familiar with the purpose of DSMBs. He/She will also explore DSMBs operations and identify when using a DSMB is necessary. Earn 1.0 Contact Hour
  • Emergency Use of Investigational Devices and Products
    Darri, an auditor with over 20 years of experience with research programs, was named the Research Compliance Officer for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in August, 2010. She began her career as an auditor with the Little Rock office of the public accounting firm Deloitte and Touche LLP in July 1990. Darri also worked at Arkansas Children’s Hospital as the Senior Grant Auditor, at Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute as the Administrative Director for Pre-Award Services, and at UAMS as the Compliance Audit Manager. During this webinar, the speaker will give an overview of FDA/IRB Protocol and discuss informed consent in regards to Investigational Products and Devices. Earn .75 Contact Hour

  • The NIH Center's Introduction to the Principles of Practice of Clinical Research (IPPCR) course is NOW available to UAMS and IDeA States Pediatric Network researchers. The course trains registrants how to effectively and safely conduct clinical research.

    The course textbook, Principles and Practice of Clinical Research, Third Edition (2012, ISBN: 978 0-12-382167-6) is available for purchase from several online book retailers and at the NIH Building 10 FAES book store. A Fourth Edition of the textbook is expected to be available in late 2017 or early 2018. 

    The course is conducted entirely online in a self-paced format; however, we recommended that you view 1 to 2 lectures per week to give yourself ample time to understand the theoretical and practical aspects of the content and to prepare for the final examination.  The final examination will be posted online to the student website on Monday, December 4, 2017 and will remain accessible online until Friday, June 15, 2018. Please contact Catrice Banks-Johnson with questions. Course closes 11:59 PM Friday, June 15, 2018.
