The 2016 Allen A. Copping Excellence in Teaching Awards, the most prestigious award given by the institution, were presented during graduation May 28. Terry Davis, PhD, Professor of Medicine & Pediatrics, received the award for clinical faculty and Norman Harris, PhD, Professor of Molecular and Cellular Physiology, was the basic science faculty award winner. The winners are chosen by their leaders, colleagues and students. Nominators wrote that Dr. Harris contributes to education at each step of the process and in all three schools. Thoughtful, dependable and reflective were three adjectives used to describe him. Dr. Davis was lauded for taking on difficult topics in her teaching and going above and beyond to make sure that students take care of themselves too. A nominator said that "her passion and drive are what educator should strive for."
