Pennington Biomedical Research Center and the Louisiana Clinical and Translational Science (LA CaTS) Center were recently awarded a major grant focused on COVID-19 testing in Louisiana’s hardest hit populations, the black communities. The $1.8 million grant is funded under the National Institutes of Health (NIH)’s Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics initiative in Underserved Populations (RADx-UP) program. Support from Louisiana’s Congressional Delegation Members, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy and U.S. Representative Garrett Graves, Governor John Bel Edwards and Louisiana Health Secretary Courtney Phillips was instrumental in the success of this securing this award.
