Researchers at LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center have released Franklin
Parish data from the Risks Underlying Rural Areas Longitudinal (RURAL) Heart and Lung
Study. Led by Dr. Stephanie Broyles, this groundbreaking study seeks to better understand
the factors contributing to higher rates of heart and lung disease, stroke, diabetes,
and obesity among people living in rural communities. The release follows the publication
of data for Assumption Parish earlier this year, making Franklin Parish the latest
Louisiana community to contribute valuable insights that may help improve health outcomes
in rural areas.
Dr. Stephanie Broyles is a Professor and Director of the Contextual Risk Factors Laboratory at Pennington Biomedical and LA CaTS Community Engagement Core Co-Leader. The LA CaTS Center congratulates Dr. Broyles and her team for their impactful work.
