Eric Ravussin, PhDDr. Eric Ravussin, Director of the Pennington-Louisiana Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC), Director of the Human Translational Physiology Laboratory, and Douglas L. Gordon Chair in Diabetes and Metabolism Boyd Professor, has received a five-year, $5.66 million renewal of its Nutrition Obesity Research Center (NORC) grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The award extends funding for the Pennington-Louisiana Nutrition Obesity Research Center through 2031, reinforcing Louisiana’s role in advancing research on nutrition, obesity and metabolic health. Pennington Biomedical is one of only 11 NIH-funded Nutrition Obesity Research Centers nationwide, placing it among an elite group of institutions dedicated to addressing some of the nation’s most pressing health challenges.

The center focuses on improving nutrition and metabolic health across the lifespan—from pregnancy and childhood through adulthood and healthy aging. The NORC’s three scientific cores provide investigators throughout Louisiana with access to cutting-edge resources in human phenotyping, bioinformatics and molecular mechanisms, and animal models research.
 

Dr. Ravussin is a current LA CaTS Pilot Grants Project Lead for the project titled "Experimental approach to test predictions of body weight regulation model" and a Co-Project Lead for the project titled "Can carnitine supplementation suppress fructose-induced de novo lipogenesis?". He has also served on the LA CaTS Center's Internal Advisory Committee for 13+ years.
