Ms. Paula Jordan (Pennington Biomedical Research Center), Program Manager in the LA CaTS Center’s Community Engagement & Outreach Core and the lead on the Community Research for Optimal Wellness Network (CROWN), joined Mornings with Brian Haldane as a guest speaker to discuss CROWN.
Helping Communities Shape Research
CROWN encourages community members to take an active role in research beyond participating in studies. Opportunities include:
- Identifying community health priorities
- Participating in focus groups and surveys
- Serving on advisory boards
- Assisting researchers with community assessments
- Providing feedback on research initiatives
The network also promotes transparency by helping researchers return study findings to the communities involved. Research results will be translated into easy-to-understand summaries and shared through the CROWN website and outreach efforts.
Building Stronger Community Partnerships
In addition to engaging residents, CROWN welcomes participation from healthcare providers, community organizations, faith-based groups, educators and other local leaders. The network is focused on fostering partnerships that help researchers better understand community needs and support the development of more impactful health solutions.
CROWN members can explore a wide range of health topics, including heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, nutrition, children's health and other issues affecting Louisiana families. By bringing together residents, organizations and researchers, CROWN seeks to create a stronger foundation for community-driven health research and improved health outcomes across the state.
